Getting To the West Highland Way

By Air – Glasgow airport
Road – To Glasgow
Train – sleeper to Glasgow, or regular train, you can return via the sleeper. The Way paralells the railway in many sections and you can conceivably complete a number of sections while being based at one station. However, trains are few and far between and you’ld need to plan wisely (most practical Crianlarich way, though the ferries over Loch Lomond might make it possible that end). This does make it easy to split the Way into a couple of sections, starting and ending at different railway stations and makes the route walkable in two long weekends from the Sleeper service (though with the necessity to arrive at your station in time for the train detracting from the enjoyment of the final day, with the author’s preferred method being an extra day’s grace, allowing the ascent of a munro or Corbett on the final day.)
